In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable data protection laws, you have the right to request the complete deletion of your account and all associated personal data from the Chessie Opening Trainer Service.
IMPORTANT: Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. All your chess repertoires, training history, and cloud-synced data will be permanently deleted. Please ensure you have backed up any data you wish to keep before proceeding. Premium subscriptions must be cancelled separately through the Google Play Store — account deletion does not automatically cancel subscriptions.
1. Data That Will Be Deleted
Upon account deletion, the following data will be permanently and irreversibly removed:
- Account credentials, email address, and authentication data.
- All chess opening repertoires, move trees, annotations, and study notes.
- Training progress history, accuracy statistics, session logs, and performance metrics.
- AI usage records and token consumption history.
- Application preferences, settings, and personalization data.
- All data stored in Firebase Authentication and Firestore cloud databases.
2. Data That May Be Retained
Certain data may be retained for legitimate legal or operational purposes even after account deletion:
- Anonymized Aggregated Data: Usage statistics that have been irreversibly anonymized and aggregated may be retained for analytical purposes. This data cannot be linked back to your identity.
- Legal and Compliance Records: Information required to comply with applicable legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements may be retained for the period required by law (typically up to 90 days after deletion).
- Transaction Records: Records of purchases or subscriptions may be retained for accounting and tax purposes as required by applicable financial regulations.
3. Methods of Deletion
3.1 In-App Deletion (Recommended)
The most efficient way to delete your account is directly within the application. This method immediately initiates the deletion process.
- Open the Chessie Opening Trainer application.
- Navigate to the Account screen (accessed via the profile icon or settings menu).
- Scroll to the Settings section and tap Account Actions.
- Select Delete Account.
- Read the warning dialog carefully.
- Enter your email address to confirm your identity.
- Tap Delete Forever to confirm and complete the deletion.
Once confirmed, the following occurs automatically:
- Your studies subcollection is purged from Firestore.
- Your user document is deleted from Firestore.
- Your Firebase Authentication account is deleted.
- All local data on your device (studies, training sessions, cached data) is wiped.
- All SharedPreferences app data is cleared.
3.2 Manual Deletion Request via Email
If you are unable to access the application or prefer to submit a manual request, you may request account deletion by email. This process includes identity verification to prevent unauthorized account deletion.
- Send an email from the email address associated with your Chessie account to support@chessieapp.com.
- Use the subject line: "Account Deletion Request — [Your Chessie Username]".
- Include your full name, username, and the email address associated with the account in the body of the email.
- We will send a verification email to confirm your identity.
- Once verified, we will process the deletion within 7 business days.
You will receive a confirmation email once the deletion has been completed. If you do not receive confirmation within 7 business days after verification, please follow up with us.
4. Deletion Timeline
Our deletion process proceeds as follows:
- Immediate (In-App Deletion): Account access is revoked and cloud data is queued for deletion immediately upon confirmation.
- Within 24 Hours: Firebase Authentication account, Firestore user document, and studies subcollection are permanently deleted.
- Within 30 Days: Backup copies and cached data across all systems are purged in accordance with our data retention policies.
- Manual Requests: Processed within 7 business days following identity verification.
5. Subscription and Purchase Implications
Important: Deleting your Chessie Opening Trainer account does not automatically cancel your Google Play Store subscription. To avoid continued billing, you must cancel your subscription through the Google Play Store independently:
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
- Tap the menu icon and select Subscriptions.
- Find "Chessie Opening Trainer" and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm cancellation.
We are unable to process refunds for subscriptions cancelled through account deletion. Refund requests must be directed to Google Play Support in accordance with their refund policies.
6. Data Portability
Before deleting your account, you may request a copy of your data in a portable format. To do so:
- For in-app data: Navigate to Settings, use the cloud backup feature to sync your latest data, then submit a data export request to support@chessieapp.com.
- We will provide your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format (JSON) within 30 days of your request, free of charge.
- For additional copies, we may charge a reasonable fee based on administrative costs.
7. Exercising Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Erasure (GDPR Article 17): You have the right to request deletion of your personal data without undue delay.
- Right to Deletion (CCPA): California residents have the right to request deletion of personal information collected from them.
- Right to Data Portability (GDPR Article 20): You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Right to Object (GDPR Article 21): You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
